Benko B-8133 Seat Mat Back Mat

Benko A-8133 is a bentwood chair crafted from beech wood, drawing inspiration from classic 19th-century furniture, preserving its lightness and elegance in a modern interpretation. The slender construction and fluid lines of the bent elements give the form a harmonious, timeless character.

The model stands out for its consistent use of woven cane in both the seat and backrest. Both elements feature precisely crafted Viennese cane weaving in a mat form, which introduces lightness and a rhythmic structure to the piece. The uniform nature of the material emphasizes the aesthetic consistency of the design, while also ensuring user comfort thanks to the flexibility and breathability of the surface.

Natural materials and refined details mean that the chair perfectly fits into various arrangements – from home dining rooms to elegant restaurant and hotel interiors, bringing warmth and a subtle, artisanal expression to the space.

The project was designed by Tomek Rygalik / Studio Rygalik. The designer, known for skillfully combining simplicity and functionality, gave the form clarity and lightness, demonstrating how contemporary design can develop classic inspirations.

Designer: Tomek Rygalik

He is a designer, lecturer, curator, and Doctor of Arts. Born in Łódź in 1976, he studied architecture at the Łódź University of Technology. In 1999, he graduated from the industrial design department at Pratt Institute in New York. After graduation, he collaborated with many renowned design firms in the United States, serving clients such as Kodak, Polaroid, MTV, PerkinElmer, Dentsply, Unilever, and Dupont. After earning his master's degree at the Royal College of Art in London in 2005, he joined the research and development team at RCA. During the same period, he established his own design studio, with offices in both London and Łódź. Since 2008, he has been running a design studio at the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and in 2009, he permanently moved to Warsaw. Since 2012, he has been co-director of Studio Rygalik, which he founded with his partner, designer Gosia Rygalik. His extensive collaborations include projects for recognized brands such as Moroso, Noti, Profim, Ideal Standard, Siemens, Heineken, and Ikea. He served as creative director for leading Polish furniture brands, including Comforty and Paged. He undertakes numerous projects for cultural institutions, including the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the Grand Theatre — National Opera, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, BOZAR, Zachęta, the Fryderyk Chopin Museum, the National Museum, and Polish Cultural Institutes. In 2011, he served as the architect for the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. For Paged, he created many collections, including LOF, BENKO, and K2.
